mostly new, reflects a life full of magic and nature.

Andrea’s guiding orientation has always been Nature and
landscapes, yet her faith in improvisation (as a direct link to the most
authentic expression of the unconscious) often results in abstracts. As a mature painter who first studied under
Abstract Expressionists, her belief is shared among contemporary late 20th
-21st Century painters. Theisson
holds a degree in Fiber Art and Painting from the Tyler School of Art,
Phila. Age has brought much reflection,
much amusement to this paintweaver. Life
is full of art, explorations, and wonder.
It helps to stay amused and fascinated.
And, there are always surprises, especially if you think you know
Andrea’s “style.”

This collection of work is about fundamental, primal,
restorative nature. Some of this is seen
in myths and metaphors, some is portrayed in simple imagery of an artist
through the seasons. There is more
figurative work than usual for Theisson.
There are small talismans, omens and portents – the magic of life. The artist sees the Positive as protection
and survival. Beauty has a rich power
all its own, supported by deep layers of psychic loam, associations and many
years of synthesis. Each canvas is a unique
journey. Possibilities change with each
work of art. All are a separate
adventure honed by years of mindfulness and awareness of the spirit of painting,
techniques that create an impression that can only be filtered through an
individual.

As a professional Tapestry weaver, this painter is quite
aware of layers and textures, often working with many glazes-over-glazes, or scriffito
over translucent washes, then palette knife, and sometimes collage. Mixed Media is always an option, along with
assemblage. The mark of an artist’s hand is something that cannot be
mass-produced, digitalized, or ignored.
Enjoy these works in person, let them evoke your own
interpretations. This is art in a
traditional, sensual, and always original one-of-a-kind format.

The Blue Parrot Bistro is owned by old friends of the artist–
sisters Holly Giles and Alison McIllhenney . They have cultivated a perfect
place for the kind of artists’ ambiance that locals and visitors love. Andrea Theisson curated and promoted their
first series of art exhibits over 25 years ago when the Bistro first opened, in
1988, featuring many regional artists.
It has been a constant place for art-events since those years. Painter Anne Finucane of Chambersburg is now
the coordinator for the Blue Parrot art shows which are such a part of regional
culture and will feature First Friday art receptions in February and March. The

Also have planned a one-person show of paintings at Sparky & Clarke's Coffee Bar in center-city York, PA for May-June. AND one or two Landscape Workshops for early June, before it gets too hot...will also be teaching at the Mannings National Handweaving School again, the first week of August, Tapestry Basics- Tangents and Techniques! This is always a great experience, with students from all over the country! I feel "at home" in Manning's studios, and the camaraderie is always excellent...fiber art folks rock! Details will follow! Another artist, in the out-lands, playing hardball with a conservative area that is, inevitably HOME. I am a native of this area, yet have traveled and/or lived on the West Coast (Santa Cruz mts.), New Mexico, Florida, Vermont, Maine, and Philadelphia (Tyler School of Art) in the late '60s...whew!
I am a "paintweaver," as critically dubbed by methodical landscape painter Neil Welliver during a fellowship I was awarded at the Vermont Studio Center. (I loved this - it is now on my cards!!!) Logical, really - I have a fine arts degree in Textiles, and I specialize in Tapestry, teaching at the Manning's National Handweavers' School, as well as Painting in acrylics, mostly. My style is organic expressionism.
And I teach privately, and sometimes at Harrisburg Area Community College in Gettysburg and Bradley Academy of Visual Arts in York. I "do" mixed media, watercolor, murals....and conservation and displays, consultations. Museum studies are a second interest, and I have enjoyed teaching some local architectural and "backyard archaeology" courses.
I am just recovering from the intensity of 6 years of homeschooling (like mother, like son - the system just didn't work for us) and financially re-grouping. My studio is open by appointment - contact me through this site!
Join me in this blog, as an Art Forum; an outlet for all the thoughts that I wish I could share with other professional free-lancers, a place to share discoveries and delights in the art realm, and explorations in philosophy and life! Welcome to my world!Andrea Theissonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00442955627992470146noreply@blogger.com0
